Eidolon: 8 Tales of the Far Future

A speculative collection about youth, responsibility, and the cruel pull of nostalgia.

A man returns to his home planet for a funeral. A boy is fed his darkest desires by unseen malevolent predators. A woman defends her decision to re-home a little blue alien.

Set in futures close enough to touch and some far enough away to be unimaginable, these eight stories explore the spaces between what we say and what we mean, between the self we project and the self we can't quite name.

Nothing explodes. Nobody saves the world.

"A postmodern collection of stories that ponder what it means to leave behind childhood and live in a world dominated by profit. A fantastic start for a debut author."

— James D. Mills

From the introduction

We've all been in rooms full of people whose greatest preoccupation is yesterday — who talk of how things were, who look back at the horizon instead of up at the stars. There's comfort in the afterglow of those sepia-tinted days, but if you stay too long in them, as a character in this collection finds out, they'll kill you.

And so, there comes a schism between the youth we long to return to and the future we must learn to accept. Though I didn't realise it at the time, these stories are my attempt to wrestle with that schism.

Maybe they'll be of some use as you wrestle with it too.
